Bald Head Island is close to several wonderful offshore fishing areas, including the Gulf Stream. It comes as no surprise that Bald Head Island offers some of the best fishing in North Carolina!

Three of Bald Head's beaches face the Atlantic Ocean, and one faces the mouth of the Cape Fear River. There is also a fishing pier located at the marina's entrance. Frequent catches on the island include Flounder, Drum, Blues, Spanish Mackerel, and King Mackerel.

The tidal creeks offer excellent crabbing and cast netting for baitfish. If you want to go clamming, grab a rake and walk out onto the sandbars at low tide. If you're a freshwater angler, Bald Head Island offers several freshwater lagoons with Large Mouth Bass and Tarpon. Be sure not to get too close to the infamous Bald Head Island alligators frequently seen sunbathing along the banks.

We have provided Charter Boat Information below, along with a Fishing Schedule and our highly popular North Carolina Fishing Guide. Be sure to also view our Tide Tables for Bald Head Island.

Charter Boat Information

North Carolina's fishing has never been better, and fishing North Carolina with Impulsive Charters is the best.

In June, Bald Head Island holds the annual Bald Head Island Fishing Rodeo. Over 30 boats typically enter this competition that offers winners a cash prize for total aggregate weight caught of Dolphin, Wahoo, and Tuna. Captain Paul really enjoys the lively competition of this tournament. The Impulsive placed first in the 2003 Bald Head Island Fishing Rodeo, second place in 2002, and third place in 2001.

Impulsive Charters is located in Southport, NC. They offer full day, half-day, and Gulf Stream fishing trips. They can pick you up in Southport, Oak Island, or Bald Head Island. They target Tuna, Wahoo, Billfish, King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Dolphin and many more types of fish.

Impulsive Charters offers private offshore fishing charters, as well as Cape Fear River cruises to Wrightsville Beach and downtown Wilmington. Impulsive Charters is a fully equipped, 38 foot Bertram with Twin 420 horsepower turbo-charged Caterpillar Diesels and a 23-knot cruise speed.

During summer months, a variety of popular game fish visit the shores of Bald Head Island. Many saltwater species can be caught in areas all around the island. The time of year, the fishing location, and the tides specify what types of fish are being caught and where they are being caught. When you arrive, be sure to ask what type of bait the fish are biting when you arrive. Good luck, and happy fishing!
