News BlogIs the Cape Fear as scary as it's name suggests?

How did the Cape Fear get that name? The Cape Fear River is a major waterway extending from the Atlantic Ocean through North Carolina's Coastal Plain to the Piedmont. Many ships sank of the coast of Fort Fisher during 16th - 19th centurys. North Carolina has been called the Graveyard of the Atlantic for good reason.
About 1600, a Spanish map called the area "Cape of Faire" due to the dangerous shifting sands at the mouth of the river. Today, much commerce has settled right on it's beautiful banks and the old shipwrecks make for great diving in this much sought after vacation destination.
